Born March 9, 1895, near Houston, James Robert Brown was the son of John W. and Rosa A. Brown. He died July 3, 1967, at the age of 72.
He was united in marriage to Pearl Watson near Houston November 21, 1920, and to this union six children were born. Two preceded him in death, Freida Virginia at three days of age in 1922 and Wendell Elbert at 12 years of age in 1938.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl, four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Shaeffer of Jefferson City, Missouri, Mrs. Arlene Reardon of Peoria, Illinois, Mrs. Roberta Moore of Rolla, Mrs. Sharon Sue Lay of Decatur, Illinois, and six grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Etta McKinney of Houston, and Mrs. Trevil Haney of Yukon, one brother, Melvin Brown, of Garner, Iowa, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was an active member of the Central Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War I and was employed by Reddish Trucking Service for a few years, before starting his own express service between Houston and Springfield in 1938. He was employed by King Hardware a short time and at Fort Leonard Wood for several years.
Funeral services were held July 5 at the Central Baptist Church with Reverend Kirby Fletcher officiating. Burial was in the Central Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Evans-Elliott.
Pallbearers were his nephews: Harry Moody, Bob Wallace, Ernest Wall, Wayne McKinney, Glen McKinney, and Lewis Miller.
