Eva Bringman, a longtime resident of Eagle Butte, was a quiet woman, but there were times that her composure broke. While working on their ranch after her marriage, she discovered by a confrontation that pigs were definitely not her favorite livestock, and she made it well known to family and friends - to their amusement.

Eva lived her life by three morals: Church, Family and Work, according to her family. She would help raise money for her church by baking pies and rolls. It was said that people would try to buy her pies before the fundraisers had even begun because the pies were so good. She was also a member of the church Altar Society. She was always beside her husband, helping with the ranch work, and still found time to clerk in a local drug store for many years.

"She was the cornerstone of our family, devoted to anything she did," her family said.

Eva died Friday, June 15, 2007, at the Weston County Manor in Newcastle, Wyo., at the age of 83.

She was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Strasburg, N.D., to John and Magdelina Fischer and was the oldest of their six children. Eva grew up and attended school in Eagle Butte and graduated from Eagle Butte High School in 1942.

Eva met Len "Fat" Bringman in Eagle Butte and they were married on Jan. 22, 1943. They began their life together on the 24 Ranch. When Eva was within a month of the delivery of their first child, Karie, a terrible blizzard came up. Worried and wanting their child to be born in town, Len bundled Eva up and took her to town in a horse and buggy.

Shortly after their marriage, Len was sent overseas during World War II. While he was away, Eva moved to Aberdeen to make her home with her parents and found employment there. When Len returned from service, they moved back to Eagle Butte and started their lives together over again.

Eva leaves her daughter Karie (John) Hilt of Newcastle; granddaughter Melissa Marie (Chris) Henry of Casper, Wyo.; grandson Len Jon Allen Hilt of Casper; great grandchildren Hannah Marie Henry, Chloe Christine Henry and Emma Henry, all of Casper; sisters Mary Olson and Irene Hanson, both of Aberdeen; and her brother Andrew Fischer of Aberdeen.

Her husband Len, two brothers, Leo and Max Fischer, and her parents preceded her in death.

The funeral for Eva was Friday, June 22, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte with Fr. Brian Lane officiating.

Casketbearers were Terry O'Neil, Albert Jewett, Rick Olson, Larry Keller, Aaron Webb and Duane Gray. Honorary bearers were Judy Gray, Irene McGill, Yang Sun Schiller, Dan Keller and all of Eva's family and friends.

Burial was at the Eagle Butte City Cemetery under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge.
