Lawrence R. Walters, 76, of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. Those wishing to attend the services should meet at Chambers Funeral Home by 9:15 a.m. Friday morning. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or to the National Kidney Foundation.

Larry was born May 30, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Charles & Naomi (Bangs) Walters. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. On May 6, 1967, Larry was united in marriage to Ruth A. Birge in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.

Larry had most recently been employed with River Valley Co-Op in Eldridge. He had retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1999 and had also worked for John Deere, Waterloo Works.

A Cardinals, Cornhuskers and Hawkeye fan, he enjoyed all sports. He also enjoyed time outside, hunting, working in his yard or embarking on long road trips with his family. Larry will also be remembered for his homemade salsa and as a devoted husband, father and grandfather,

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Carol Knisley of Eldridge; his sons, Clinton (Heather) Walters of Bettendorf and Christopher (Anne) Walters of Chicago; his grandchildren, Katie, Joshua, Madison, Jacob, Justin and Jace; and his great-grandchildren, Ellianna, Boston and Delilah.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
