Dr. Lehr was the son of Henry R. Lehr and Sarah Ann Lebo Lehr. On June 24, 1884, he married Emma Katherine Enders, the daughter of George Washington Degen Enders (1834-1914) and Annie Kneiley Enders (1835-1926). The couple had 6 children. Dr. Lehr graduated in 1879 from Berrysburg (PA) Seminary and from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1884. He taught school for three years, then after receiving his M.D., he practiced medicine for five years in Northumberland, PA. Afterward, he practiced in Lykens, PA. He was a physician for the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1910 until his death.

M. D. Lehr is the eldest of his father's family. He was reared in Gratz and Jackson township, and was graduated from the Berrysburg Seminary in 1879, after which he taught school for three years. He read medicine with his uncle, Dr. W. Lebo. of Valley View, Schuylkill county. Pa., and studied at Jefferson Medical College, from which he was graduated in 1884. He practiced medicine five years in Northumberland county. Pa. In 1889 he came to Lykens, where he now enjoys a large practice, succeeding Dr. Meyers. He belongs to Ashley Lodge, F. & A. M., and Wiconisco Lodge, I. 0. 0. F. His politics are Republican. Dr. Lehr was married, in 1884, to Miss E. Kate, daughter of G. W. D. Enders, of Jackson township. Their children are: Gertrude, Annie, Henry Enders, and Earl S. Dr. Lehr is a member of the Reformed church of Lykens; has been deacon and elder ever since 1891.
