Alfred Daniel Williams King, Sr
Birth: Jul. 30, 1930
Death: Jul. 21, 1969

Social Reformer. A Civil rights activist, minister, and younger brother of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., he is credited with organizing the Birmingham and Louisville civil rights activities. His home was bombed when he and his family lived in Birmingham, Alabama and a church he pastured while he and his family lived in Louisville, Kentucky was also bombed during the heat of the struggle. During his ministry A.D. King pastured four churches, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Newnan, Georgia, First Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, Zion Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky and Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he was Co-Pastor with his father Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr. until his untimely death. One of his favorite sermons was "Peace Be Still," where he marveled at the peace and calmness of Christ in the midst of the storm. While as Co-Pastor at Ebenezer, he was known and loved for his work with the youth and children's ministries and he is credited for initiating the church's television ministry. In July of 1969 he was found drowned in the swimming pool of an Atlanta motel. His questionable death was indicated as no sign of foul play. (bio by: Curtis Jackson)
