Birth: Oct. 15, 1866
Jackson County
Arkansas, USA
Death: May 9, 1953

1st married 6 July 1887, Searcy, White co., Ar., Thomas Augustus Garrison - divorced 17 July 1891, Jackson co., Ar.

2nd married 28 Feb. 1894, Newport, Jackson co., Ar., divorced 3 May 1904, Jackson co., Ar.

Savannah was spoiled by her father & when she was in her teens was sent to a Yound Ladies Seminary in Huntsville, Alabama. It is interesting that she was sent to this area, as that is where her Mother's family was situated before Jackson County in 1840. Later she returned to Newport and when she was but 17 years old, she married in Searcy on July 7, 1887, Thomas Garrison. Thomas was the son of Reverend Garrison of Newport Methodist Church. No doubt she met him while visiting her sister
Marguerite, "Nellie", in Searcy as the Reverend had previously been stationed there. From family information it is thought the marriage was frowned upon, especially by Amelia and it probably had to do with their young ages. Tom Garrison was but 18 years ole and working on a steamboat. He later became a steamboat Captain. It seems everything was done to break up this marriage. They separated Sept. 1888 & were divorced July 17, 1891. Tom & Savannah kept in contact through the years. It is said Savannah always loved Tom & regretted the divorce blaming her mother. Savannah married the second time to Jesse Lee Carpenter. Jesse was educated & had a good position in merchandising. He had been a teacher in Independence County at one time. He had a tendency to drink & gamble which eventually took it's toll on the marriage. Savannah lived with her father in Newport during these times. Savannah was proud of the Morris heritage & of her French ancestry. She was a petite & spirited woman. She played the piano well. She had great affection for her father & told how everyone in Newport called him "Uncle Billy" Savannah left Ft. Smith, moving to Arizona & later Los Angeles, California. She moved to Los Angeles to be near her son and daughter.
