John Jay Hillstrom, 90, Independence, died there Nov. 14, 1976, at a convalescent center.
Services will be Thursday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home with private interment at Green Crest Memorial Park.
Mr. Hillstrom was born in Hood River, Oct. 15, 1886, the son of John and Eva Wheeler Hillstrom. He married Emma Schoppert in Salem, April 20, 1919.
He served in the Field Artillery as mess sergeant during World War I.
The Hillstroms lived in Central Valley, Calif., for 30 years while he was employed as supply clerk for the Bureau of Reclamation. He retired in 1950. They moved in Independence in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Emma, Independence and brother Ray Hill, Los Angeles.
