Senator Baer, served in the New Jersey State Legislature.He began his public service as a civil rights activist in the sixties,and was jailed for 45 days in the Mississippi State Penitentiary for his role as a Freedom Rider.He also marched with Dr.Martin Luther King and served as a staff member on the march from Selma, to Montgomery,Alabams.

Burial: Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
