A popular Broadway ingenue from age 17 onward, her credits included the original productions of "Six Cylinder Love" and "The Cat and the Canary." She blossomed into a superb actress in the 1930s, winning several awards, including the New York Drama Critics prize for her performance in the 1956 Pulitzer Prize winner "Long Day's Journey Into Night" with her husband, Fredric March. Other movies she appeared in with her husband were "Les Miserables" (1935), "Mary of Scotland" (1936) and "Inherit the Wind" (1960). Three years after her husband's death, she appeared in her only made-for-TV movie, "First, You Cry"(1978). (bio by: Warrick L. Barrett)
