Andrew Hagerty was born in Cork, Ireland and came to America in the late 1830's. He lived for a time in Ontario, NY and then migrated with his family to Ozaukee county, WI in the area of Saulkville.
Andrew bought 80 acres of land in Ozaukee county in 1848 built a home and settled into farming and raising his family.
After a time many more Irish settlers came to the area, some also from Cork , and an Irish community was established, St Finbar's Catholic Church and school were built.
In 1854, Andrew and Bridget Hagerty donated 2 acres of their land to the Bishop of Milwaukee for the St Finbar's Cemetery in which both were later buried.
After the death of Bridget Hagerty, his wife, in 1889 Andrew lived with his son John and family for a time in Chicago, IL. Andrew Hagerty became a naturalized citizen at the age of 75 yrs in March of 1891 and registered to vote that next year.
By 1900, Andrew returned to Saulkville to live his remaining days with his daughter Anna Hagerty Safford and her family.
