Thirty-sixth Governor of Arkansas, 1955-1967. Faubus gained national attention in September 1957 when he summoned the Arkansas National Guard to prevent nine black students from integrating Little Rock Central High School. President Eisenhower subsequently sent federal troops to Little Rock to ensure the integration of the school. Faubus served longer than any other Arkansas governor.
