Gurney was born in LaMont, Pettis Co,. Missouri to Phenandis Peter and Mahala Jane (Stanley) Parker. He was the brother of Nannie Bell, Lysonder "Anna", Walter, Charles, William Henry, Callie May, Julia Alice and Ollie Parker. He married Rosa Etta Hanning on March 25, 1914 in Henry Co., Missouri. He was the father of Gladys Pearl and Paul Douglas Parker. He died in Blende, Pueblo Co., Colorado.

PARKER, Gurney D.- Pueblo Chieftain, August 22, 1955: Gurney D. Parker Dies At Hospital. Gurney D. Parker, of 3 Kiowa Lane, died Sunday at a local hospital. Born in Missouri in 1892 and one of 10 children, he came to Pueblo in 1928. Since 1942, Mr. Parker has been a guard at the Pueblo plant of Colorado Fuel & Iron Corp., and was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He is survived by his wodow, Mrs. Rosa E. Parker; a son, Paul, and daughter Mrs. Gladys Deason, all of Pueblo. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Callie Hemplull [Hemphill], of Missouri, and Mrs. Julia Kennedy, of Oklahoma; three brothers, Ollie Parker, of Missouri, Walter P. Parker, of Ohio, and William Parker of Missouri, and six grandchildren. Services will be held at the Rouch Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
