Dix LeRoy Monroe 1934 ~ 2007

Dix LeRoy Monroe passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007 at the Payson Hospital from complications of a lingering illness. He was born September 18, 1934 in Scipio, Utah, as the youngest child of Irvin G. and Virga O. Monroe. He married Joyce Black of Fillmore on May 28, 1954 in the Manti LDS temple. They had five children. He cared for her during her illness with cancer until she passed away on September 11, 1991. Dix married Georgia Russell on February 15, 1992. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on Sept. 3, 1993. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in Elders Quorum presidencies, Sunday School, the Young Men's and in other positions. He and his brothers Jack and Neil, spent their lives doing what they loved to do - run the family farm and ranch as Monroe Brothers in Millard and surrounding counties. They were well respected among their peers and he received several awards, including Utah Cattleman of the Year. He loved to ride his horse and watch over the cattle. He was also active in the Scipio Riding Club and in other civic activities. He served as a member of the Farmers Home Loan agency board and as president of the Millard County Farm Bureau. He also served in many other capacities in other farming and ranching organizations. With the marriage to Georgia, her J Bar Ranch in Ophir became a big part of his life and he was proud of the improvements they made to the ranch together. Georgia was by his side every day. He loved and was proud of his boys and girl and their families. He is survived by his loving wife, Georgia, his sister Beulah and Sheldon Quarnberg of Scipio; and his children: Kay Dix and Terry Monroe of Monroe; Kary and Diane Monroe of Richfield; Warren and Shelly Monroe of Monroe, Robert Monroe of Scipio; and Elizabeth and Gary Fowler of Stockton. He has 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Virga Monroe, his wife, Joyce, his brothers and their spouses, Jack and Lola Monroe, and Neil and Edith Monroe, and sister, Beth Monroe Fernelius. Viewings will be in the Scipio LDS church building on Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Friday, June 22, 2007 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with the funeral at 12 noon. Interment will be in the Scipio Cemetery under the care of Rasmussen Mortuary. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Doctor E. William Leroy and the staff at Mountain View Hospital for their special Care of Dix.
