Barnell John "Loonie" Babin, a retired U.S. Army veteran with 30 years of service and a resident of Baton Rouge, died at 5:17 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2007, in Baton Rouge. He was 77 and a native of Duplessis.

Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, until religious service. Interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales.

He is survived by two sisters, Norma Battle of Baton Rouge and Rilda Long of Walker; nephews, Stephan Benard and Claude Benard, both of France, Mike Battle, Glen Battle and Perry Long, all of Baton Rouge; and nieces, Wanda Dabbs, Janai Sharkey and Debbie Rowell, all of Baton Rouge, Missie Battle of New Orleans, Josee Robillard and Isabelle Robillard, both of France.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aimie Herault; and parents, Allie and Addie Arceneaux Babin.

He loved photography.
