Marie Magdalena Platt, came to America with her husband George Andreas Platt and their family on the ship Columbia. They left the Port of Bremen in Germany sometime in late 1846 and arrived in the Port of New York on January 11, 1847. They traveled to an area just west of Central Barren where they purchased 82.5 acres of land. This tract of land was later own by their daughter, Mary Catherine Platt who was married to William Wolf. Marie lived in the Central Barren area till her her death in 1879.

Lena joined the New Albany Calvary German Methodist Church on September 17th, 1848. Lena and George Platt son, Ludwig (Lewis) was baptised on October 3, 1848, at the New Albany Calvary German Methodist Church.
