YORK Suzanne E. (Harman) Pickard, 89, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at 5:25 a.m., at Pleasant Acres Nursing & Rehab. Center, with her daughter by her side. She was the wife of the late John A. Pickard. A viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2007, at Workinger-Semmel F.H. and Crematorium, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York. Cremation will follow, with burial in Suburban Memorial Gardens, at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Faith United Church Of Christ, 509 Pacific Ave., York. Officiating at the service will be her pastor, the Rev. Ronald J. Oelrich. Mrs. Pickard was born September 11, 1918, in York, the daughter of the late Michael and Miriam (Hamberger) Harman. Mrs. Pickard was a chorus line dancer in Baltimore, Md., where she met entertainer, Johnny Pickard. A talent scout offered her a job "on the line" at a club in New York City, but she chose to become Mrs. Johnny Pickard instead. During her long and happy marriage of 44 years, she traveled and made a home wherever John had booked a gig. A favorite spot was a regular summer engagement at several area restaurants in Cape May, N.J., where she was a six time Women's Clamshell Pitching Champion. She played golf at Grandview Golf Club and bragged about her hole in one, and also bowled in many York area leagues. She enjoyed being an usher at the York Strand/Capitol Theater and volunteered at the Heart and Hands Shop in downtown York. She was a 64 year member of Faith United Church Of Christ and its Golden Age of Faith, and a member of the ladies auxiliary of West York V.F.W. Post 8951. Mrs. Pickard is survived by her three children, Frances G. Stump and her husband, Kenneth of York, Thomas H. Pickard and his wife, Denise of Havertown, and Timothy S.. Pickard and his wife, Joanne, also of York; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma Jane Orendorff of Florida and Patricia Puntney of Illinois.
