Mr. William A. "Bill" Brewer, 88, of Fairmount, died June 14, 2007, at University Nursing Center in Upland.
Mr. Brewer was a self-employed farmer in the Fairmount area for 41 years, retiring in 1986. He was also employed with Grant-Blackford Mental Health Center, retiring in 1999.
He was the son of the late Mark Brewer and the late Nettie (Lamb) Brewer and was born on Aug. 20, 1918, in Fowlerton, Ind. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1935.
He married Jeanette B. (Earll) Brewer on Oct.18, 1942. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2000.
He was a member of the Marion First Friends Church. He served on the board of Quaker Haven Camp, where he enjoyed working with the youth as a counselor. He also served on the Board at Whites Residential & Family Services, and Youth for Christ. He was involved with the Gideons and a life member of the National Quaker Men.
He and his wife participated in numerous lay witness weekends throughout the midwest. They volunteered time on a mission trip to Jamaica. One of the highlights of their 57- year marriage was a trip to the Holy Land.
He served in the U.S. Army and received a honorable discharge in September 1941.
He is survived by his three daughters, Marjorie (David) Record of Fairmount, Jeannie (Randy) Elliott of Larwill, Ind., Janis (Wendell) Sizelove of Fairmount; son, Jerry (Pat) Brewer of Spindale, N.C.; brother, Phil (Louise) Brewer of Albany; 11 grandchildren, Andy (Techa) Brewer of Marion, Aaron (Tia) Brewer of Swayzee, Betsy (Frank) Ruiz, of Marion, N.C., Brian McClung of Spindale, N.C., Shawn McClung of Easley, S.C., Nick (Ashley) Brewer of Columbia City, Jessica Goble, Olivette, Mich., Stephanie, Tyler, Brock and Kristin Sizelove all of Fairmount; 10 great-grandchildren; Ezekial, Madison, Marissa and Payton Brewer all of Marion, Victoria and Elizabeth Brewer, both of Sweetser, Corey, Macy and Brady Ruiz all of Marion, N.C. and Gavin Goble of Olivette, Mich. Another great-grandchild is expected in February. Special friends Ed and Marilyn Jernigan and Frank and Marty Finley. He is also suvived by his University Nursing Center friends and staff.
Bill's family extends thanks for the special care given to him by his University Nursing caregivers Cindy Higgins and Doris Goodman.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pat Uphaus and Barbara Roe; two brothers, James and Mark Brewer.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Liberty Friends Church, 1008 W. 800S., Fairmount (located one mile west of Indiana 9 on 800 South in Fairmount) with the Pastor Rob Clark and Rev. George Taylor officiating. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to service on Monday at the church.
Interment will be at Park Cemetery in Fairmount with military honors by the U.S. Army Casualty Team.
