Funeral services tor Bill Witham were held Wed., June 13, at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Okemah. Interment followed at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah.
Billy Joe Witham, beloved husband, father and friend passed away at his home on June 11, at the age of 73. He was born April 22, 1934 to Gertrude (Titsworth) Witham and Otho Witham in Okfuskee County.
Mr. Witham was a resident of Okfuskee County all of his life. He attended Sunset School until the fourth grade and was a 1952 graduate of Pharoah High School. During his high school years he was an avid baseball and basketball player. On April 20, 1956 in Pharoah, he married his wife of over 50 years, Thelma Yates.
He was a retired oilfield business man and retired deputy sheriff. He had a very generous heart, loved his horses, and was an avid outdoorsman. He taught his family the love of horses, encouraging them to participate in, rodeos and parades. Bill loved his family and even though he didn't like running his pontoon boat on Eufaula Lake, he did it for the family he loved. Bill lived life to the fullest. He was a very wise man with a memory one could not believe, and always spoke his mind. Bill enjoyed driving his horses and three buggies with his wife and amily in parades. He enjoyed traveling; especially to Idaho with family to visit special cousins, Garry Drake and family. He was also a past board member of the Okemah Roundup Club.
Bill was a loving and devoted father to daughters, Brenda Swinford and husband Terry, Mary Adams and husband Rusty, and Melinda Peavler and husband Joe, and to son Daniel who preceded him in death in 1981. Bill was very proud of his grandchildren; Wyatt and Kyle Swinford of Okemah, Monty Dyer and wife Tiffany of Mustang, Amanda Peavler of Hen-ryetta and Brandi Adams of Okemah. Bill was always of the Assembly of God faith and recently gave his heart to the Lord.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gertrude and Otho Witham; one son, Daniel; two brothers, Guy Otho and C. W. Witham and wife Betty, four brothers-in-law, Robert Skinner, J.W. Stanley, Kenneth Bookout, and John Black.
