EAST DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Paul William Mellon, 86, of 1450 Plum St., East Dubuque, died at 10:55 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.
Private services and family visitation will be held at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
He was born on Aug. 14, 1920, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Mary (Riley) Mellon. He married Irene Heller on Oct. 23, 1941, in Dubuque; she preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1984.
He served with the Navy Seabees during World War II in Okinawa. He worked at the Dubuque Pack and eventually became a mail carrier for the Postal Service, which he retired from on Aug. 1, 1983.
Paul enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Surviving are a son, Dan Mellon, of Dubuque; a daughter, Sue (Ron) Woodward, of Monroe, La.; a son-in-law, Ken Spahn, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a very special nephew, Don (Patsy) Pins.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Spahn; six brothers; and five sisters.
