John Thomas "Johnny" McDonald passed away at his home in Fort Myers, Florida on March 20, 2019. He was born in Brainerd, MN on October 2, 1960 and attended the Brainerd schools. He worked at Pauline's in Brainerd and owned The Magic Skillet in Brainerd, sold it and moved to Florida. He became an Executive Chef, for which he attended several cooking schools and received many accolades and written articles on his cooking abilities. He was a great chef and when not cooking could have easily been a standup comedian.

He is survived by his former wife, Carley, sons, Christopher and Justin, daughter, Mollina and grandson, Adrian; his father, John D. McDonald (Susan); mother, Geraldine "Gerry" Penoncello (George); sisters, Laurie Hartman (Robert), Lisa Gross (Keith), Lezley O'Brien, LeAnn McDonald; brother, George R. McDonald; Step-sister, Kimberly Erickson (Tim); step-brother, Jeff Anderson (Nichole); step-brothers, Steve (Jean), Doug, Joe, John Penoncello and a very special friend, Wendy.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents George D. and Dorothy McDonald and Raymond J. and Marion Rehberger.

Services will be held at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd, MN @ 11:00 AM on Monday, April 8th, 2019 with burial at Memorial Gardens, Brainerd, MN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements with Nelson-Doran.
