George W. Wilburn, 88, carpenter and farmer and a resident of Huntington and Wells counties 85 years, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home in Rockford. He had been ill 11 weeks.
A native of Yadkin county, North Carolina, he was born March 13, 1852 to Joel and Nancy Redding Wilburn and came to Indiana when three years old. He was married February 2, 1877 in Wells county to Mary Jane Decker who died May 18, 1908.
Surviving are the following children, Mrs. Lorena Babcock, Rockford, Oscar M. Wilburn, at home, Leroy Wilburn, Huntington county, Mrs. Maude McBride and Mrs. Naomi Crosby, both of Markle, Mrs. Julia Gordon, Wells county, Raymond E. Wilburn, near Ossian, and Miss Iva Wilburn, at home. Fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. A daughter, Eldora, is dead.
He was the last of his family, a sister, Mrs. Almeda Boyer, and a brother, Randol Wilburn, preceding him in death.
For about 80 years he was a member of the Rockford Methodist church.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Emanuel Methodist Church a mile north of Rockford and burial will be in the cemetery at Rockford.
Rev. Conde Hile, of Pennville, Ind. And the Rev. E. J. Hults, of Uniondale in charge.
Pallbearers were Glen Wilburn, Ned Wilburn, Wayne Wilburn, Dale Wilburn, Kenneth McBride, Ralph McBride, Lester Crosby, and Harold Babcock. Flowerbearers were Evalyn Gordon, Olive Jones, Reada McBride, Gwendolyn Wilburn, Marjorie Wilburn, and Mildred Dalrymple. Music was furnished by the Rev. and Mrs. F. A. Hall of Ossian. Miss Mary Evaline Hall was pianist.
