| Birth: | 1502 | | Death: | May 19, 1536 | Queen Consort. She was the second wife of King Henry VIII of England. When the Vatican refused to nullify his first marriage to Catharine of Aragon , Henry changed Christianity forever by denouncing the Vatican and creating the National Church in England with him the supreme leader. Annie Boleyn became his wife, but soon became disillusioned with her for failing to produce a male heir to the throne of England. She had a baby who was named Elizabeth, after which her doctors told her she wasn't able to conceive again but became pregnant three more times losing each to miscarriage. When Elizabeth was three, Annie was arrested on trumped up charges of adultery and treason. She was taken to the Tower by barge along the same path she had traveled to prepare for her coronation and lodged in the same rooms she had held on that occasion. She was convicted and sentenced to death in a contrived, circus like trial. Her marriage to the King was dissolved and declared invalid but she was afforded the dignity of a private execution. The swordsman cut off her head with one swift stroke, and Anne's body and head were put into a chest and buried in an unmarked grave in the Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula which adjoined the infamous tower. Her final resting place is now marked in the marble floor. Henry went on to complete an amazing record of six wives and numerous mistresses. Two were divorced, Two were beheaded, one falsely accused, one died shortly after giving birth to a male heir and the sixth actually survived him as a widow. His one daughter with Anne Boleyn grew up to be Queen Elizabeth I, one of the greatest monarch's in English history. (bio by: Donald Greyfield)
