Frank R. Clendenin, age 94, of Watertown, SD passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 30, 2007 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Kristi McLaughlin officiating. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Visitation was held at the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel.

Honorary Pallbearers were Bob and Marie Weagel, Roy and Darlyne Mammenga, Ron Wagner, Ann Larson, Stricherz family and Gatchell family.

Active Pallbearers were Ed Larson, DVM, Gene Mack, Rachel Clendenin, J.J. Clendenin, Paul Clendenin, Scott Lentz and Dave Stricherz.

Frank R. Clendenin, the son of Samuel and Hattie (McDonald) Clendenin was born on May 28, 1912 at Clear Lake, Minnesota. He grew up in the Clear Lake and Long Prairie, Minnesota areas. In 1929, Frank joined the Minnesota National Guard where he served until 1938. He attained the rank of Sergeant, and attained the rank of expert in rifle marksmanship and became an instructor in shooting.

Frank had worked for creameries, area farmers and took courses at the U of M in dairy processing. He married Josephine Balzer on September 3, 1940 and they lived in Cloquet, Minnesota. After Josephine's death in November of 1945, Frank moved to Pipestone, MN where he owned a creamery.

He married Ruby Gatchell on August 12, 1955 at Sisseton, SD, and the couple moved to Watertown. He worked for Roger's Dairy and later for Hubbard Milling, retiring in 1977. He enjoyed flying, traveling, hunting, working on his farm, spending time with his grandchildren, and listening to WHS football games when his grandsons were playing and watching them at trackmeets. He also enjoyed visiting with his granddaughter, Rachel about world affairs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Josephine; and two brothers, Sam and Bill.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby of Watertown; his son, Jim (Vina) Clendenin of Watertown; three grandchildren, Rachel Clendenin, J.J. (Nikki) Clendenin and Paul Clendenin; and several nieces and nephews.
