Sr. Theresita Kammermeier, O.P.
Theresia was born in Wolflkofen, Bavaria on March 29, 1916. Her parents, Andreas and Anna Kammermeier, took care that their little daughter was baptized at Ergoldsback only four days later. There were three boys and three other girls of whom Sister Theresita was very fond and proud, especially her brother Andreas whose first Mass she was able to attend before she left Germany, and one of her sisters, Sister Arkadia, who also became a religious.

One year after her first profession in 1933, Sister came to the United States to complete her preparation for ministry in our schools. Her companions recall practicing some German phrases to use when she arrived and their surprise when they heard her conversing in excellent English. In 1939 Sister Theresita began teaching in our elementary schools for a span of 36 years–touching base at St. Boniface, St. James and St. Anthony Schools in San Francisco; St. Ignatius, St. Michael, Sacred Heart and St. Frances Cabrini, Los Angeles; St. William in Los Altos; San Gabriel Elementary; St. Elizabeth, Oakland; St. Mary of the Palms and St. Joseph, Fremont. Over these years she was a "beloved Teacher" for many of her students. After leaving the classroom in 1975 to assist in the Motherhouse laundry, Sister continued
faithfully with the many community services she had taken on while teaching and added new ones to her list–some of them equivalent to a full-time job. She knew what cleanliness and order were all about and, more often than not, undertook to accomplish these goals in her environment all by herself. We will always remember the blessing of each of our houses at Mission San Jose every Sunday morning in company with Sister Conrada Maier of happy memory. For years Sister saw to the sparklingly clean preparation of each visitor's room at St. Joseph Priory until her health forbade.
