Died at age 72, after a 3 yr illness. Survived by his widow and 10 children: Mrs. E.O. Sullivan, Mrs. G.W. Sullivan, Mrs. Charles Montague, Mrs. John Botkin, Mrs. Joe Boyer all of St. Marys, Mrs. Robert England of New Bremen, Mrs. H.D. Strombaugh of Lima, Dan Hertenstein at home, Lance and Mrs. Ralph Montague of north of St. Marys. Also the following brothers & Sisters- John, Jacob, William of St. Marys, Edward & Christ of Columbus and Mrs. George Bistelhorst of COlumbus. (Lima News 6-26-1931)

He was the son of George Hertenstein Sr. and Fredericka Heyl.
He married Amelia Kopp on 15 March 1883
Cause of Death: Carcinoma of stomach
