Joseph A. Barney was more amazing than could possibly be put into words. He drove wagons for 3 years on the Oregon Trail after immigrating from Canada to Illinois with his mother and step-father. Married 4 times to 3 women, it was the death of his first wife Mariah that turned his world upside down. As he entered the twilight years, he turned his life around and joined the Quaker church becoming an active lay preacher. He was the father of 10 children and husband to Mariah Hayes Alexander, Elizabeth A. Clark, and Margaret Nagel Fensky. Joseph's legacy lives on today in the works of his great-grandsons Kenneth Barney, a former POW and well-loved Assemblies of God evangelist, Duane Barney, a scientist for Argonne Laboratories and the Department of Energy, and many others too numerous to name. For all the pain Joseph experienced, he provided this world with so much good.
