Actress. She played the leading role in the television situation comedy "Beggar My Neighbour" which ran for three seasons. She also appeared in four "Carry On" films: "Nurse" (1959), "Abroad" (1972), "Girls" (1973) and "Columbus" (1992). Her best known role in the later part of her career was as in the popular situation comedy "Absolutely Fabulous" as the mother of main character 'Edina Monsoon.' She was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1985 and Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2000. In 2017, she was awarded as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
