| Birth: | Oct. 15, 1791 | | Death: | Apr. 17, 1867 |  Jayne was the first doctor in Springfield. He served as a surgeon in the War of 1812. After moving to Springfield, he was foreman of the jury of the first murder trial in the county in 1826. The following year he was a surgeon to a company of soldiers in the Winnebago War. He was one of the commissioners appointed to construct the first State Penitentiary & then a commissioner of the Illinois & Michigan Canal. He was a member of the first Springfield Board of Health & helped to organized the Illinois State Medical Society. Buried with him & his wife Sybil is his eldest daughter, Julia, who became the wife of Senator Lyman Trumbull.
