Josephine (Barrett) Blakeney, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Laurel Crest Retirement Community, Columbia, SC.

A native of Cedartown, GA, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Barrett and Elizabeth (Liles) Barrett and the wife of the late Whiteford Carlyle Blakeney, Sr.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, the H.O.P.E. Sunday School Class, the Women's Missionary Union, the Rutledge Book Club, a charter member of the Georgia Cleveland Home, and active with Mobile Meals of Spartanburg. She received her education in the Cedartown schools, Georgia State Teachers College, and the University of Georgia.

She is survived by a daughter, Jane Blakeney Herlong and her husband James H. Herlong of Columbia; a son, Whiteford Carlyle Blakeney, Jr. and his wife Suzanne S. Blakeney of Mt. Pleasant; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Herlong Campbell and Laura Herlong Rickenmann of Columbia, Anne Blakeney Kelly of Charleston, and Sarah Barrett Blakeney of San Francisco, CA; four great-granddaughters of Columbia, and one great-granddaughter of Charleston.

Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan.

The family received friends following the service at the graveside.
