Her funeral service was Friday, May 25th at the old St. Lawrence Community Church with the Rev. Beth Kelsey-Englemann officiating. Burial was in the Morningside Cemetery at Ree Heights.

Maxine Lila Lutter was born May 9, 1922, to Peter and Margie Ann (Spragg) Lutter at Redfield, South Dakota. She moved to Dassel, Minnesota and then to Parker, South Dakota, where she completed high school. She attended Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls. Upon graduation, she began a series of jobs with John Morrel in Sioux Falls, then Army Air Corps at Sioux Falls where she assisted with pilots shipping overseas, and then Saginaw Steering Gear in Saginaw, Michigan.

She was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was sent to the Sanatorium in Custer, South Dakota. It was there that she met and fell in love with Wilbur Lingscheit, another TB patient. After Maxine healed, she worked as the deputy Treasurer for Custer County. Maxine then moved back to Saginaw, Michigan to live with her sister Odelia. She and Wilbur were married September 11, 1948 at Saginaw.

The couple moved to the family ranch south of Ree Heights. They lived there 47 years before retiring and moving to Miller. In 1997, Maxine suffered a stroke and went to live with her son, Ron and family in Braham, Minnesota. On February 14, 1998, she moved into the Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller where she was a resident until her death.

Maxine enjoyed reading everything and anything. She especially enjoyed reading her bible, which she did daily until her stroke in 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and an infant son, Robert John.

Maxine is survived by her children, Lisa (Bob) Hurd of Brookings, Tom (Denise) Lingscheit of Miller, Rick (Julie) Lingscheit of Spearfish, John (Sharen) Lingscheit of Ree Heights, and Ron (Leslie) Lingscheit, Braham, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Liebing, Sarah and Nathan Hurd, Tate and Kate Lingscheit, Emmy, Carrie and Laura Lingscheit, Dustin, Cutter, Dakota, and Chance Murray, Shelby Lingscheit, and Mike, Michelle and Matt Lingscheit; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Samantha Liebing; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Froning of Miller.
