Susan was born probably in Grainger Co, Tennessee to Peter Bolton and Salomy Coffman. Her family migrated to Franklin Co, Indiana where she married William Blackburn in 1843. She bore William 11 children, 10 of whom lived to adulthood. She died at the age of 79 in the poor house in Holt County and is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave next to her husband.
