Lawrence was born on April 14, 1948 in Norton, Kansas to Lawrence L. and Glenva Orvis. Larry graduated from Wilsonville, Nebraska High School and then attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in engineering.
After his graduation he moved to California and worked as an engineer for the Department of Defense. His love for “God’s Country” brought him back to the state of Nebraska where he began farming with his father.
In the later 1970s Larry received his call to ministry and attended Sioux Falls Seminary in Iowa. In 1983 he began preaching at the Herman, Nebraska Federated and Riverside Baptist churches.
On July 19, 1986 he was united in marriage to Jacque Husk of Herman. They were blessed with a daughter.
Larry also served churches in Giltner, Phillips, David City and Octavia before his retirement.
Lawrence G. Orvis, age 70 of Norfolk, Nebraska passed away November 14, 2018.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jacque Orvis of Norfolk; daughter Jenny Orvis and husband Luke Edwards of Dryden, New York; siblings: Kathryn (Gary) Bergstrom of Lincoln, NE, Nancy (Victor) Knutson of Wilsonville, NE and Kevin (Sue) Orvis of Hebron, NE; mother-in-law Gracie Husk; brother-in-law John (Judy) Husk; sister-in-law Sharon (Perry) Gydesen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Gene Husk, stepmother Camilla Orvis, sister and brother-in-law Carole and Ronald Vankirk.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 19 at 2:00 PM at the Herman Community Church in Herman, NE. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 PM.
