Lindsay (or Lindsey) Gowing took care of my grandmother's stepbrother, Leslie Ray Carl (or Ray Leslie Karl) (1900-1970) after the death of both my great-grandfather and Ray's mother in 1904. I am searching for Ray Carl's father.
The Gowing family can be traced in the on-line census records. Lindsay and most of his siblings were born in Indiana, they lived in Iowa for a while and then the parents and Lindsay moved to Missouri.
Lindsay's wife was Artie M. Cox. Her parents were John Cox and Eliza LaFever. Eliza Cox was a widow in 1900 and lived in Vineyard, Lawrence Co, MO. Living with her were Ray Carl, his twin sister May Carl, and their mother Nora/Adelia Carl. Nora would become my great-grandfather's fifth wife.
Lindsay and Artie had three children, Alta DeLena Gowing Colley, George Mason Gowing and Leila Buchanan. They lived most of their lives in Jasper Co, MO. In 1920 they were living in Arkansas with their youngest child Leila Buchanan. By 1930, they were back in Jasper Co, MO.
Of note, Lindsay died from a fracture of the skull caused by a blow to the head.
The tombstones in this family appear odd. Lindsay and his mother are on one tombstone yet his mother died before his father. The person who I believe to be Lindsay's wife has the wrong birth year but the same tombstone style as their son Mason Gowing who died about the same time as his presumed mother.

Carthage, Mo., Nov. 30. — Funeral services for Lindsay Gowing, 83 years old, who was beaten to death with a club Thursday night by his wife, Mrs. Artie Gowing, at their farm north east of here, were held yesterday afternoon at the Madison church, northeast of Carthage, with the Rev. George F. Harbour of Carthage in charge.
