James P. Ace 72, of Harvey Road, Foxburg, died at 6:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Mr. Ace was born Aug. 27, 1933 in New Castle. He was taken from an orphanage when he was 3 days old and raised in the home of Frank and Kathleen Ace of Sligo. Mr. Ace was a 1952 graduate of Sligo High School and also was a graduate of Clarion University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He spent three years as a technical writer for McGraw-Edison in Pittsburgh. Mr. Ace taught English for many years, first at Clarion Limestone High School and then at Keystone High School and retired from teaching in 1993. During his teaching career, he coached baseball, basketball and golf. He and his wife owned and operated an insurance office for a number of years. He enjoyed classical music and Italian opera. He was a past president and member of the Foxburg Country Club for many years. Mr. Ace attended the Park Hill First Church of God in West Freedom. He was married Sept. 19, 1953, to the former Winona Grant, who survives. Survivors also include a daughter, Connie Williams and her husband, Pat, of Hagerstown, Md.; two sons, Ted Ace of Knox, and Steve Ace and his wife, Lisa, of Mars; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Julia Dischler and her husband, Stephen; three step-brothers in-law, Robert Stewart and his wife, Yvonne, James Stewart and his wife, Elaine, and Gordon Stewart and his wife, Dee; and two step-sisters in-law, Patricia Stewart and Polly Ondrako and her husband, Jim; as well as a number of others who, like Mr. Ace, were raised in the Ace household. He was preceded in death by Frank and Kathleen Ace; his wife's parents, James and Anna Mae Grant and Dale and Emma Stewart; three brothers-in-law, James Grant Jr., Harold Grant and LaVerne Grant; one sister-in-law, Mrs. William (Doris) Craig; one step brother-in-law, Roger Stewart; and a granddaughter, Christina Williams. Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove Street, St. Petersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Lonny D. Wolford and the Rev. Corona Say, church pastors officiating. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery.
