He passed away at the Belleville hospital, Monday November 1 1937 at the age of 55 years, 2 months and 6 days, after a long illness. He lived in Colorado for two years; and the rest of his life was spent in this community [Reynolds, Hubbell area]. Mr. Shoup was united in marriage January 14 1912 to Clara E. Riddle. To them were born seven children. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Clara, five daughters and one son, namely: Mrs. Hazel Curry of Tacoma, Washington, Nelma, Leslie, Evelyn, Jo-Ann and Esther at home, one grandson, his aged father of Wiggins, Colorado; two brothers-Jay of Wiggins, Colorado and Burt of Compton, California; two sisters, Vina Davis of Fairbury, Grace Lancaster of Bennet, Nebraska; and many relatives and friends. One son had preceeded him in death. Mr. Shoup was county patrolman for seventeen years. He was a hard worker all his life. He was a good neighbor, an upright, honest business man; he was a kind and loving husband and father; His first thought was for his family; and he provided for them well. He was a pleasant, likeable personaliy. Many people, far and near speak well of him today. On Friday, November 5 brief services were held at Mr. Shoup's home because Mrs. Shoup's illness made it impossible for her to go to the church. Then the long procession of relatives and friends followed the hearse to the Methodist church in Hubbell where the memorial service was conducted by Rev. Forest A. Heizer assisted by a quartette consisting of Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Wiens; Mrs. Alice Brown and Mr. Isaac Clark with Mrs. Geo. Cleveland at the piano. The burial was in the Reynolds cemetery.
