P. E. Jensen Died Early Today; Funeral Friday
P. E. Jensen, 65, for nearly a third of a century a resident of Nevada, died at 5:30 a. m. today at Iowa sanitarium as the result of a stroke suffered April 7.
Mr. Jensen had been gradually failing since he suffered the stroke, having been care for a his home, 534 Fifth street, until a few days ago, when he was removed to the hospital.
Funeral rites will be held Friday at 2 p. m., at the Seventh-Day Adventist church, and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery by th side of his wife, who passed away in March 1931.
Mr. Jensen had been a resident of Nevada since 1908 when he came here from Hastings, Nebr. as the contractor in charge of the building of the Iowa sanitarium. He had but just finished a similar contract at Hastings before coming to Nevada.
Following the completion of the sanitarium contract, he, with his family remained in Nevada and for some years continued in the general contracting business and later in cabinet making and similar line of work. His last big job was that of building the Circle theater building.
His life had been devoted to his family, his home, his church, and his flowers. While devoting much of his time to his church and his outside work, he spent much of the time in his home and garden. The latter was long one of the show places of the city. He grew gladiolas by the thousands and the most choice ones at that. Churches, homes and offices about the city often been liberally supplied with his bloom.
He had served upon the conference and sanitarium boards of his church, on the city council of Nevada, and in later years had been continuously in charge of the roll call drive of the American Red Cross in Nevada. This was one job that he took much satisfaction in, and had always been rewarded by liberal results.
Born in Marlboro, Denmark, 66 years ago, Peter Jensen celebrated the second anniversary of his birth on shipboard, crossing the Atlantic with his parents. The family settled in Nebraska and there he was raised to manhood, coming to Nevada, as stated, in 1908.
Mrs. Jensen ie in March 1930, and he is survived by one son, Dr. Pierce Jensen of Oskaloosa, and two daughters, Mrs. O'Della Follett and Miss Eulalia Jensen of Nevada; five grandsons, Pierce, Jr., Robert and Richard Jensen of Oskaloosa and Roy and Peter Follett of Nevada. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. P. H. Ernsten of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. Conrad Anderson of Netawaka, Kans.
