Civil War Service of John L. Barnhart:

Enrolled at Ravenswood, WV, Aug. 24, 1862, Private, Co. I, 11th West Virgina Infantry, under the command of Captain Dixon R. King; Mustered in Sep. 24, 1862, at Parkersburg, WV; promoted to Corporal March 1865; Captured at High Bridge, VA, on April 6, 1865; Paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA, on April 9, 1865; Mustered out at Richmond, VA, June 17, 1865.

Note: 1890 Veteran's Schedule indicates his disability "Gun shot wound in right hand." Possibly he received this at time of capture, April 6, 1865.
