OBITUARY FROM PRINCETON MO
TELEGRAPH

John H. Bettis, seventy six years of age, died at his home in this
city
last Sunday night after a lingering illness with kidney and lung
trouble.
He had been ailing for more than a year but was confined to
his bed only eleven
days when released from great pain and suffering by
death.

Funeral services
were held at the home yesterday, conducted by Rev. S.
Carothers, pastor of the
M.E. Church, after which the remains were
placed on board the east bound
afternoon train and taken to Clio, Iowa
where internment was made in the Greer
cemetery, beside kindred dust.

John H. Bettis was born in Louisburg, Mason
county, Kentucky, Oct 20,
1832 and died Apr 13, 1909, aged 76 years, 5 months,
and 22 days. He
removed from Kentucky about fifty years ago and located in
Iowa. He
came to Missouri six years ago and secured a home in Princeton where
he
remained until his death. He was the father of thirteen children by
his
first marriage, ten of whom survive him. In the year, 1893, Nov 23,
he
was married to Mrs. J. A. Ross, who survives him. She was the mother
of
eight children by her first marriage, four are living. No children
were
born in their last wedlock. All their children are married and
have
families of their own. In early life he was converted and joined
the
Methodist church. In these latter years he had connected himself with
the
Christian Union Church in which communion he remained until death.
He lived a
devoted Christian life and his voice was often heard in
earnest public prayer.
His brother, Lawson Bettis, who lives in Monroe
county, Iowa, the only
surviving member of his father's family was with
him the last few days and was
present at the funeral.
