The 1850 Census taken in October in Richland, Fairfield County Ohio notes the following: Head of household is Jesse age 35 born in Ohio and is occupation is that of "saddler" leather products not shoes. His wife, Rebeccca is age 42 also born in Ohio. Children at home all born in Ohio: Ann Mariah age 11, Thomas J. 9, Wright L. 7, Charles 5 and Emma age 2. There is a Emma McMullin age 19 born in Ohio living with them.

Jesse G. Beery, born near Bremen, Ohio in 1816, died Jan. 12, 1853 (1852) at New London, Henry Co., Iowa. Rebecca Larimer, born 1812, died Jan 6, 1853 (1852). They were married _______. Mr. Beery was a saddler and harness maker at Bremen, Ohio. In 1850 he, with his family, moved to New London, Iowa, and continued his business. In the Autumn of 1852 (1851) ??? typhoid fever broke out in his family and the parents and three of the children died.

Notes: There is always a chance that death dates are incorrect or dates are incorrect on gravestone. Also, I found it interesting that they left for Iowa from Ohio after the 1850 census was taken in October. I also find it interesting that the child Charles dies in 1831 and in Ohio and also Ann who dies in 1848 in Ohio are now buried here at Farlow. It was "uncommon" in those days to move bodies and bring the gravestones with them….but it is always possible. Another thought is a lot of folks who were farmers just buried their dead on their property and I guess if you are leaving your farm for another state .........I would probably take them with me if I could too...:)

Research on child Emma born in 1849:
In the 1856 Iowa State census for Lancaster, Keokuk Co. she is living with her father's sister Priscilla Beery Hillis and she is age 7 born in Iowa?.

In the 1860 Census of Lancaster, Keokuk Co., Iowa she is age 12, born in Ohio and living with R. W. Hillis and his wife Priscilla who is a sister to Jesse G. Berry.

In the 1870 census of Kansas City Ward 2, Jackson County, Missouri Emma is still living with R. W. Hillis and his wife Priscilla (sister to Emma father Jesse G.) Emma is now age 22 born in Ohio and now known as EMMA HILLIS!!!!
