William WHITING, Sen., was born in Hartford, CT, in 1748 or ‘49, & married Abigail Flower, of the same place. They removed, with several children, to Granville, NY thence to Hampton, & from there to Warsaw about the year 1820. Mr. WHITING was a soldier of the Revolution, a good citizen & a member of the Baptist church. His wife died 25 Aug 1882, aged 73 years. After her death he was married three times. His second wife was Mrs. Lucinda WHITING, a brother's widow, who died 10 Sep 1838, aged 67; this third, Mrs. Phebe RICH, widow of Peter RICH; his fourth, the widow of Lyman NOBLE, who also is dead. He died March 22, 1849, aged 90 years. He had eight children all by his first wife, viz: Lucy, Catharine, William, Abigail, Nathan, Sophrona, Demmon, Timothy.
1818 granted pension from the Revolutionary War.
Soldier of the Revolution In a pension request, William Whiting stated he was living in a house owned by Silas C. Fargo "which in stormy weather does not protect our gray hairs from the wind & rain." Mr. Whiting appears to have been at or near destitution. The Warsaw vital records show William as being a carpenter who died of old age.
