Inscription: "A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home, which never can be filled. God in his wisdom has recalled the boon his love had given and although the body slumbers here the soul is safe in heaven."
Obituary for Sam Wheeler Layman: "Sam Wheeler Layman was born August 13, 1882, joined the Methodist Church in early youth, was married to Miss Kate Rollison, October 26th, 1904 and departed this life on the 14th day of August 1906. Is this all there was to the life of our departed friend? No these are only the mile posts that marked what seemed to us, the beginning of a good and useful career. Sam's short stay on this earth was most marked because of his ever being true and good, no one has ever known him to be other than what he believed a Christian ought to be. He was identified with every phase of Church work and especial interest was manifested in the Epworth League work. He was president of the League and went as its representative to the last State Convention. He lived a life worthy of emulation by every youth, in so much as he was always found on the side of truth and morality. We deplore the loss of our brother because in him the Church had a true and faithful worker and the community an honest and upright citizen. May the bereaved feel that they have the sympathy of their many friends in their great sorrow and may they feel, as we all do, that their loved one has left this land where sorrow comes only to go to that place where sorrow is not known and God dwells. - A Friend."
