"Lizzie" lived with my mother's family for a while and gave my mother these dates to write in her brand new Bible. When I questioned mother about these dates she wrote, "My Bible has May 19th, 1872. I am sticking to that date since she told it to me. Here is what I think happened about the wrong date on her tombstone. On one of mine and Bill's trips to Newport I told Uncle Babe that the next time I came to visit I was going to buy Grandma a tombstone since she did not have one. The next time we went to Newport and to the cemetery, Grandma had a tombstone that Uncle Babe bought. I think he guessed wrong about her date of birth. I don't think I wrote it wrong in my Bible. Can't remember if you have any other documents about the date or not. Hope this will help." Her death certificate says she died on August 21, 1948. It also states she was born May 9, 1872. But here again the same son who bought her tombstone gave the info on the death certificate.
