Memorial to the unknown soldiers who died while in camp between 1808 & 1826 at Fort Bellefontaine, which was on the Missouri River bluffs near St. Louis. In 1828 the cantonment was closed & the troops removed to Jefferson Barracks. The remains of the officers & soldiers were reinterred in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery by the U.S. Government April 15, 1904. This large red granite boulder & plaque was donated by the Daughters of the Revolution & was erected by the St. Louis Chapter.
