James Eddie Humes, 85, Tompkinsville, died Feb. 18, 2004, at the Monroe County Medical Center.
He was a logger and a member of the Athens Baptist Church.
Born in Monroe County on Dec. 12, 1918, he was a son of the late Garfield and Lonie (Howard) Humes and the husband of the late Haley Jane (Ford) Humes. They were married June 21, 1941 in Lafayette, Tenn.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Humes, Tompkinsville, and Jerry Humes, Livingston, Tenn.; six daughters — Geneva Copas, Gamaliel; Geraldine Conners, Benton; and Margie Nell Young, Mossie Emberton, Corrine Ford and Mary Ann Turner, all of Tompkinsville; three sisters, Retha Mae Rhineheart of Illinois and Maggie Fox and Clarice Jackson, both of Tompkinsville; 29 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Three grandchildren; two brothers, Mitchell and Bobby Humes; and a sister, Ida Emberton, all preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 20, at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with Bro. John Young and Bro. Paul Strong officiating. Burial was at the Ebenezer Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Andrea Stilts, Timmy Coffelt, Michail Andrews, Star Scott, Charles Smith and Bob Young. Honorary pallbearers were Timmy Trobaugh; Eddie Joe Brown; Tom, Bill and Tim Young; Kenny, Michael, Scott and Nathan Ford; Cody and Dusty Stilts; Jared Emberton; Quinton Coffelt; Jessie James and Darrell Humes; Jimmy and Danny Phillips; Michael D. Emberton; Philip Walker; Dusty Coulter; Billy Hunter; and Reggie and Jimmy Humes.
