He started his career as a stuntman and went on to perform in a wide variety of genres. He was noted for playing gruff bad guy roles in films to include "Paint Your Wagon," "Will Penny," "Chinatown," "Harper," "Star Trek: The Movie," "Any Which Way But Loose," and "The Getaway." On TV, he appeared on shows including "Star Trek," "Kung Fu" "The Rockford Files," "Kojak," "Little House on the Prairie," "Fantasy Island," as well as recurring roles on "Mannix" and "Gunsmoke." He also played football for UCLA, then professionally in Canada for the Calgary Stampeders, Montreal Alouettes and the BC Lions. He died of cancer. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
