Mary L. Thompson (Mowbry) Hunt was the second wife of Columbus Ruben Hunt; they married in Hartshorne, Indian Territory, in 1902. She had a son, Sterling Mowbry, from a previous marriage. The marriage book at McAlester, Pittsburg County, transcribes her name as Mary Moberly.
Mary L. Thompson was the second of five children of T. J. Thompson and wife Mattie. Her mother's maiden name was Marth Clementine Longmire.
Mary L. Thompson was born Mary Wallace in Missouri, as her father's original name was Joseph Wallace. However, after her father left Missouri to come to Arkansas and Indian Territory he assumed the name Thompson. After his wife and children joined him in Indian Territory they also assumed the name Thompson.
Mary L. Thompson was married first to Frank Mowbry, who died prior to the 1900 census, which shows Mary and son Sterling Mowbry living in Hartshorne with her parents. After Mary's marriage to C. R. Hunt in 1902, Sterling Mowbry was legally adopted by Columbus Ruben Hunt.
Sterling Mobry Hunt subsequently married Myrtle Shaw; he was killed in battle at Flanders Field, France, in World War I. (bio by: Bill Hunt)
