MARY LUCINDA SHORT CLARK

Mary Lucinda Short was born at Stockholm, St. Lawrence county, N.Y., on July 21, 1837 and passed away at her old home Tuesday, October 6, at the age of 94 years 5 months and 23 days, after an illness which confined her to her bed for almost half a year.

When she was 11 years old her father passed away. In 1863 she moved with her mother to Illinois.

In 1856 she was united in marriage to James H. Clark, and in the spring of 1858 they moved to Mitchell county, Iowa, by covered wagon. Here they homesteaded and enjoyed the fascination and rigors of pioneer life. Her husband passed away on October 22, 1916, at the age of 91 years.

Mrs. Clark was one of the charter members of the little group that organized the Stillwater Congregational Church in East Lincoln many years ago.

To this union 14 children were born seven of whom survive their mother's passing: Mrs. Mary Cheney, of Orchard; Edwin A. of Osage; Mrs. Elsie Dodge, of Orchard; Mrs. Lizzie Douglas, of Bellflower, California; Dennis Clark, of Orchard; and Mrs. Amy Sweet, of Upton, Wyoming.

One son Robert L. preceded his mother in death twelve days. There are also twenty-four grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held in the home of Dennis Clark, where the mother made her home, and interment was
in the Orchard cemetery on Thursday afternoon, October 8, 1931, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Nelson C. Drier of the Osage Congregational church in charge.
