He was a member of Lawings Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden, was employed by Vermont American for 26 years as supervisor in the Tap and Dye Department.
In addition to his parents; a brother, William Russell "Bill" Abernathy preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Jynell W. Abernathy of the home and two sisters, Helen Huffman of Vale and Faye Lail of Maiden.
