Newman Maples Carter was the son of George Anderson Carter and Margaret Leah Louise (Mullinax) Carter, one of 11 children. The family moved from Georgia to Texas between Dec 1882 and Feb 1885 (based on children's birth locations). Newman was born 31 March 1888 in Valley Mills, Bosque County, Texas.
