Walton Dwight
Birth: Dec. 20, 1837
Death: Nov. 15, 1878

Civil War Union Army Officer. Served as Lieutenant Colonel of the 149th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Became commander of his regiment when his superior, Colonel Roy Stone, assumed command of the 149th Pennsylvania's Brigade just prior to the Battle of Chancellorsville. He was in command of the regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg, where he was severely wounded in the leg during the brutal fighting around McPherson's Farm on the first day of the Battle (July 1, 1863). Although wounded, he remained in command of the regiment until it withdrew though the town in the retreat of the I Corps. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
